2 True Paranormal Stories for a Late Night

Is the paranormal simply a series of strange coincidences?

These two stories follow two storytellers. The first, Lucia begins her story in Toluca, Mexico where she discovers that she might have a "stuck shadow" (sombra pegada). But her paranormal experiences continue throughout her life, even following her across the Atlantic Ocean.

In the second, Ana from Ecuador tells us about her experiences in her grandmother's house and the thing that her grandma refuses to talk about: a strange entity that seems to lurk in one of the rooms. Interesting fact here: I have been in that house myself. And I experienced something that I break down in this episode, too.

[00:00:00] Alrighty, so you asked me for another scary storytelling session and I asked you for some stories, which I actually got. I actually had some phone calls for stories that were submitted in Spanish for our podcast Terror Historias Reales, which I got transcribed and translated to make it easy for everybody here. And I'm going to be reading them to you right now. You ready? My name is Edwin and this is Paranormal Club. Alrighty, so get ready for these because they are pretty eerie.

[00:00:29] So we're going to have to get with our cobijas here and everything and be ready to do our thing. Here we go. This is my story. It's been many years since then. I must have been around 11 or 12. I was born and raised in Mexico. We've always lived in Toluca.

[00:00:54] During our childhood, we moved a house a lot until my dad built a place near the bus terminal station in Toluca. The lot was brand new. My dad designed the house and built it with his crew because he's an architect. So, in theory, there was nothing to it. There was no history in that house. There's a lot of floors and downstairs there's a garage. The garage has a direct access to the backyard. If you come in through the entryway, you can go down to the garage and then set up the stairs and you end up in the backyard. That's an important detail.

[00:01:23] Right there by the garage is a washing machine and we have to go down the stairs whenever we need to do laundry. I don't remember anything happening to me when I was little. It was more like it started right before my teenage years, you know. It must have been 11 or 12. In that house, it was my mom, my dad, my sister, and my grandma, my mom's mother. The house didn't have any kind of history. But all of a sudden, I remember that one day, things just started out of nowhere. They would knock on the wall like the neighbor was hammering.

[00:01:51] It was a really strange thing because it was usually around 3 in the morning. It was a nice neighborhood. We lived surrounded by family and friends. There weren't any bad vibes or any bad stories. We asked the neighbor why he was making noise at 3 in the morning and he said he wasn't. Which obviously was really late. He wasn't doing anything. Instead, he said he would hear us from our side of the house pushing furniture around. And his bedroom was directly next to ours. We were just kids. We had no reason to be doing that at 3 in the morning.

[00:02:21] So we just left it at that. Then more things started happening. Little things. Then they started piling up. I was upstairs in my room doing whatever and my sister was downstairs. She was doing the laundry. And all of a sudden, I hear her voice and she goes, Lucia. And I say, yeah? What is it? Lucia. Well, people who have siblings know that we usually don't call each other by our names. We use nicknames, right? Like, you know, Gorda, Hermana.

[00:02:52] Gorda. It's true. That means like chubby. It's like an affectionate kind of thing, I guess. Anyway. But we don't really call each other by our names and definitely not by our full name. But it was her voice. Hey, Lucia. I started going down the stairs. Suddenly, halfway through the house, I see my sister starting to come upstairs. And I tell her, hey, what's up? And she goes, no. What do you want? I'm like, why? She says, because I heard your voice calling me. Mariana. Mariana.

[00:03:21] I tell her, no, I didn't call you. I heard your voice. She says, no. I heard yours. So we decided to ignore it and just go on with our day. Things kept happening. One time I was in the kitchen. The house was empty. And I heard three knocks coming from the inside of the closet. In the kitchen, we had this really big closet. And that's where we kept the dishes and the food. It was in the afternoon. All these things would happen during the day or later in the afternoon. Only the noises in the wall happened at night. Everything else happened during the day, just like that, calmly.

[00:03:51] I heard someone knocking from inside. And I thought it was my sister because we would play at scaring each other, you know? You know how it is. One of you hides and jumps out when you're not expecting it to scare you. In this case, though, I opened the closet door. There was no one there. It was definitely enough space for someone to crawl in there. But no, there was nobody. So, I mean, what do you do, right? At that age, I was already 11 or 12. I wasn't a little kid anymore. It's not like when you've got a big imagination and you make up games and think you're seeing

[00:04:20] things because you're influencing yourself. No. This was already something really strange. At night, I liked going to sleep with my grandma. I would wake up, go up the stairs to her room, and ask her if she'd let me sleep with her. I was always really bad at sleeping. I'd wake up, and when my mom read us a story, I couldn't fall asleep until she finished the whole thing. My sister would fall asleep right away, but I had to hear what was happening. So anything at all would wake me up. Her grandma would let me sleep in her bed, and her mattress was really hard. So I liked it, nice and firm.

[00:04:50] The next day, I don't really remember. It was probably the weekend. Her grandma, who was very religious and went to mass every day, had gone out. Every day is probably every week. Or some people go every day. I mean, I don't think there's mass every day. I remember waking up alone. There was nobody else in the house. It was around 10 in the morning, maybe 9. My grandma had lots of books on natural remedies and storybooks. There was a book there by the headboard, and since I didn't feel like getting up, I picked it up and started reading it.

[00:05:17] It was a book of unusual, really strange stories. I read for a bit and then stopped on one story that really caught my attention. It was about a little girl. I don't remember where, but I'm sure it was in Europe, who said she could see goblins. But the goblins bothered her, harassed her. The little girl would cry, and nobody could see the goblins. Only she could. She started complaining that the goblins were biting her, and then they looked at the girl's little legs, and they'd find tooth marks. There was no one there. It really shook me.

[00:05:46] I put the book down and said, nah, this is really bad. So I looked around my grandmother's room. My grandma kept a lot of things. She was a hoarder. Up on the top shelf of the closet, there was tons of boxes. Like gift boxes, chocolate boxes, boxes full of stuff. She had a TV, and the walls had these really big closets built in, almost reaching the ceiling. I saw the boxes started to move. The first thing I thought was, no, this can't be possible.

[00:06:15] Because the boxes were moving, like something was pulling them out of the way so it could get through. I felt awful. I covered myself with the sheets and started praying, because that's the first thing you think to do. And I kept thinking. I told myself, no, Lucia. You're, I mean, it's not possible. It was probably the story you just read. You're imagining this nonsense. This isn't real. Surely when you look, there won't be anything there, and it was all just your imagination. So I pulled up the sheet right off my head. I looked up again.

[00:06:42] And the boxes were still moving. That's when I said, nah, this isn't right anymore. So I ran out and went downstairs to wait for my family. I'm sure they showed up later, but I don't remember. Those were the most intense things that happened. Much later, well, not that much later, my parents got divorced. And I think that since we were about to be teenagers with all the hormones and bad energy, plus the vibes for my parents' marriage and my grandmother, who honestly, her presence didn't really help my parents' marriage either, you know?

[00:07:11] All that kind of mixed together, like this mashup, like a cocktail that made the energy get really intense. I was just about to start middle school. We moved to another house. Just my mom, my sister, and me. We lived there really happily for a few years. I started middle school, and when I did, I began to change a little. I started dressing only in black. I started listening to rock music. I painted my nails black, my lips black. That in itself isn't anything bad. Teenagers are exploring. I was also figuring out what I liked, you know?

[00:07:40] We all go through that dramatic teenager thing. The emo phase. Yep. That was that extreme, but I was doing badly in school. I was just remembering that, you know, there's going to be the Warped Tour pretty soon. And I'm going, and I'm so excited for it. Goodness. Yeah, that emo phase, man, is real. Anyway. I wasn't that extreme, but I was doing badly in school. I couldn't focus in class. I was having some issues. I was doing really, really, really bad.

[00:08:07] The worst part was that I didn't even want to see my grandma anymore. My dad's mom. She was such a devout, loving person. She was one of those, you know, big grandmas who hugs you, feeds you, showers you with love. And I just couldn't stand it. For some reason, I couldn't even stand to see her. It bothered me so much that she looked at me with loving eyes. I didn't like it. I was the first granddaughter. I was always the favorite. The spoiled one. And my grandma would look at me with so much love, and I couldn't take it. I just couldn't.

[00:08:37] And I would tell her, Grandma, don't look at me like that. And she would say, but why? I love you so much. And I would say, no, don't look at me like that, Grandma. I don't like it. That was really the only strange thing. When we moved into the smaller house, just the three of us, my mom met a neighbor who was a very kind gentleman. He always looked out for us a lot. To this day, he's my mom's boyfriend. He was also getting divorced. His wife was mean. She put a spell on him. But it didn't work out right.

[00:09:05] And while he was looking for a remedy, he ended up with a healer or a witch doctor who's called, or was called, I don't know if he's still alive, Don Alejandro. Don Alejandro saw a photo of me because he talked to him and told him, bring me this girl. One day, Sergio, my mom's boyfriend, told us, look, this happened. And Don Alejandro wants to see you. He says he's going to open your chakras and you'll do better in school, that he can do a cleansing. And I agreed.

[00:09:31] I said, okay, as long as it would help me do better in school, because honestly, it was really hard. That day, on the day that we agreed on, he took me to his town. It was a very humble little village on the outskirts of Toluca. I don't even remember exactly past La Maquinita. For me, it was really far. I remember it took two buses. It was a long trip. And he finally got to his house. He was waiting for us. A very kind man. I remember his face. But he had this peaceful vibe.

[00:09:58] And very kindly, he led us into his office, the place where he worked, right in his house. It was a room with a table. And there were lots of religious images all over the place. He greeted us, introduced himself, and told me again the same thing. Ah, yes. Yes, we're going to do a little cleansing so your chakras open up and you can focus better at school. I said, yeah, sure. So he sat me down in a chair and told me, don't cross your legs. Don't cross your arms. So I just stayed there. And then he started praying.

[00:10:27] He rubbed oil on my forehead, wafted incense over me, and kept moving his hands a lot. He said, close your eyes. I closed them because it didn't feel like I should challenge him, even though I was an angry, rebellious teenager. I said, no, I'd better listen to this man. So I closed my eyes and he did his work. And that was that. Then he told me that the next day I had to walk barefoot on the grass for about five minutes so everything would keep going well. And I said, OK, so that's what I did. The next day, I got up early, took off my shoes and walked to the garden.

[00:10:56] Honestly, I felt better. It was a physical change in me. I mean, I was much, much happier. I stopped dressing in black. I still like rock music. OK, that didn't go away. But I didn't feel that annoyance anymore about going to see my grandma. I went back to see her really happy. I love that she would spoil me, cook for me, pamper me. You know, when I finished middle school, I went to high school and then started college. And that's when we couldn't keep paying the house anymore. So we decided to move back to the house where I lived before. The big house.

[00:11:27] My mom, my sister, and me. And my sister and I remembered everything that really happened there. So we decided not to give it any chance. We sprinkled holy water, blessed the walls, lit incense, prayed in every room and said clearly, only light comes in here. There are only good things here. Nothing bad gets in. And that was it. After that, nothing happened again until later when we met a new friend. Lucia's about to. OK.

[00:11:53] This is where the story gets really eerie because she meets somebody. She meets a friend. And everything changes for her. Here we go. She continues. We met this girl at a concert along with three other friends. And she was the one we clicked with the most and got along with best. She lives in Cuernavaca. So we'd often go to her place and she would come to ours, usually for a weekend, during vacations or whenever we could. We would go visit her or she would come over. That's when things started happening again.

[00:12:21] Back then, we had cats at the house. When she was there, I remember it was Christmas because we were sitting in the living room with Christmas tree. All of a sudden, we saw one of the cat's toys go flying down the stairs, but on a path that a cat couldn't possibly have thrown it. I mean, a cat can swat at something, right? Like it can knock it down the stairs with its paw. But this was like someone had launched it. Like with a catapult. The path it took was just different. Another time it happened that my friend and I were in the kitchen having breakfast and one of the cats was about to come in.

[00:12:51] But suddenly, it stopped short. Like the cartoons, it just froze. Then it took off running out of the kitchen. It didn't want to come in where we were. The most intense thing that ever happened to us at the house was this one time when we were watching TV, just chatting and some friends of my sister's came. They brought her a serenata, which is like a serenade. So we opened the door and let them in because the house has this really nice big gate outside. They couldn't just like knock on your balcony or your balcony or anything. I mean, we would have to let them in.

[00:13:20] And they came into the living room and they sat down there playing songs, boleros, for my mom and my sister and Laura and I went to the kitchen to make them some coffee. We were heating up the water. We were chatting. And all of a sudden, someone knocked on the window three times. Boom, boom, boom. It was night. It must have been around 11. And my friend froze. And I opened the door to the back patio and turned on the light, thinking it was one of our friends messing around, that he had slipped through the dark, came in through the garage, tried to scare us from the back of the house, you know?

[00:13:50] But no, that wasn't it. So my friend was really scared. I didn't mention it, but one thing about Laura is that she's always been really sensitive to this kind of stuff. She'll be at home and suddenly look out the window and go, oh, did your dad get here already? And the other person says, no, there's nobody in the yard. So what she does is she just shuts down. When she was in college, she lived outside of Cuernavaca and she shared a house with some classmates. And in that house, there was a little boy's ghost that would scare them. She shuts down.

[00:14:17] For some reason, when she's with me, only when she's with me, that's when things start happening again. When we were in Cuernavaca, that's where things would happen to us at night. They're at home. It would suddenly happen in the afternoon or during the day. But at our house, it always happened to us at night. And they were little things too. Like out of nowhere, the TV would turn on. The door would open. One time we had these little collectible dolls. And I remember we were like changing their clothes. And I left the shoes there. We were sitting on the bed. There was no way those shoes could have gone anywhere.

[00:14:47] And all of a sudden, I couldn't find them. I put them right next to me. And when I turned around, the shoes were gone. And that's when I really got mad because I said, no, like these are my things. Like don't mess with my stuff. And I heard what you're supposed to do is cuss at them and tell them to calm down, right? That's when I finally said, all right, you. Stop taking my stuff. Let me try that again. And that's when I said, all right, you. Beep. Stop taking my stuff. Those are really expensive and they're collectible.

[00:15:15] I don't like you going around stealing what isn't yours. And at that moment, we decided to go back and look for the shoes again. I lifted up a pillow and there they were. I mean, there was no way. There was no way to explain it. But honestly, I found my little shoes. Years later, when we moved back to the big house, one time we were sitting at a table. My friend Laura was there, my mom, my sister and some other friends. They were talking about scary stuff. And all of a sudden, my sister casually goes, oh, yeah, like that day we took Lucia to Don Alejandro

[00:15:44] so he could remove the shadow that was stuck to her. And I was like, the what? Apparently what happened is that when I was born, someone died in the hospital and it latched onto me. It was a person who didn't want to die. I had the shadow stuck to me. But my mom's boyfriend went to find someone to remove a curse his ex-wife had put on him while he was talking to Don Alejandro. He showed him a picture of us. And he was the one who said, look, bring me this little girl because she's got something attached to her. And that was it.

[00:16:12] He says that while I was sitting in the chair, he saw a shadow peel off and go towards the sky and they weren't going to tell me that. I mean, I was like, why? Why are you keeping secrets for me? But I did feel a change, especially with what happened with grandma. I didn't like her seeing me like that. I feel like maybe the shadow knew that my grandma, I felt like she could see it, like she really could see it. And it was saying that this isn't meant for me. That love isn't mine. And I was resisting. That time I was already living in England.

[00:16:42] At first I was to do a PhD, but honestly, I found it way too hard. There was a moment when I was really desperate and very sad. I was far from my family and I wasn't studying my own language. I had a boyfriend, but I didn't know where things were going with him. It was really hard. Nothing was clear and I didn't know what was going to happen. He didn't tell me anything and neither did I. And I was desperate, really sad. So I went to this esoteric shop in downtown. They sold, you know, tarot cards, crystals, candles, books, little decorations, things

[00:17:11] for practicing Wicca magic, amulets, a really lovely shop. Sometimes they had a couple who would read the cards there. And in my desperation, I said, well, I'll go there. Because on top of everything, a session like that was pretty expensive. At that time, as a student, I just couldn't afford it. But I said, nah, they can't take it anymore. I need to know something. I need to know what's going to happen with my life. And I went. A young woman was working the front desk and I told her, well, I'd like someone to read my cards.

[00:17:39] And she said, no, right now there isn't. The girl who reads the cards isn't here, but we do have a medium if you want to go in. And I said, all right. Just like that. Medium. All right. Hoping it wasn't a scam, you know? Yeah, that's what I'm thinking here. Especially with how expensive everything is. Yeah. So I sat down. A young guy introduced himself and said, look, I'm a medium. Medium. Sorry. That isn't funny. It's just, look, I'm a medium.

[00:18:09] What I do is talk to spirits that show up. If someone wants to talk to you, they come through and I'll be able to speak with them. Whoa. Okay. Back to seriousness there. I said, okay. Well, he tells me, you don't say anything. I'm the only one who's going to talk. Okay. So we're sitting there and the place is really nice with the whole vibe and everything. And all of a sudden he starts talking. Oh, look, a lady just showed up. She says she died of a heart attack. And the first person I thought of was my grandma, my mom's mom.

[00:18:38] She was in a coma for a while. And in the end, she died of a heart failure. So the first person I thought of was her, but I didn't say anything. Poker face, right? I said, no, no, not this person. And she tells me, yes, she says that the guy you're seeing is a really good person and that he's worth it and that he's going to give you a ring soon. That really lifted my spirits. He says to be careful with the car, that you're going to have an accident. So be really careful about that. And said, well, that's pretty generic, right? After that, a flat tire, anything at all.

[00:19:08] And you go, oh, there's a message. It's true. But anyway, I didn't say anything. And the man kept going. All of a sudden he got very serious. And said, who are you? This is not to her. This is to like something in the room. What do you want? Aula was just standing there quiet. And he says, there's someone here saying they know your boyfriend, but they won't tell me who they are. And I was like, oh, my God. And he kept pushing, you know, tell me who you are. What do you want? Introduce yourself. Tell me who you are. And he says, no, no, no.

[00:19:37] They don't want to say who they are. Telling me things. And then he says, so I'm sorry. I don't know if you knew, but you had a little brother. He died. And I did know. And he says, dad's here. And he wants to tell you that he's okay. And I asked, what was his name? And he goes, I can't make out the name, but it starts with a C. And yeah, that was something I did know.

[00:20:05] See, my mom had a failed pregnancy, but if it had been a boy, she wanted to name him Carlos. And those are the kinds of things, like the car doesn't matter, but how would he have known that? So me coming from the other side of the world, there was just no way. But yeah, that was true. It's over now. So I thanked him so much. Grandma told me everything was going to be fine, that you should have faith, that this guy was a good guy, and that he was going to give me a ring, that he was really going to propose to me. That he made me feel better. And yeah, sure enough, now we've been married for 15 years.

[00:20:33] You have a son, so everything's great. The accident thing did happen. The brakes failed on us on a trip in Germany. Luckily, nothing happened. It really could have been something very serious because it was winter. So the brakes, they went downhill with the road all slippery and us unable to stop. But thankfully, nothing happened. Later, talking with my husband, once I knew him better, one time he was telling me about his grandparents and I asked him, and did you know your grandfather, his mom's dad? And he says, I didn't know him because he killed himself. I said, what?

[00:21:04] Now that was years later, right? I mean, once I already knew his family, once we had a deeper relationship already, and he said, yeah, it's just one that he had a lot of headaches, severe migraines, and he hanged himself. He just couldn't take it anymore. So I mean, these are the things that, like I'm telling you, how could anyone know that? It's not possible. And that's Lucia's story. Now, this one tells us about things that are just too much to be coincidences. You know, things that you experience, things that people tell you,

[00:21:33] especially when we're dealing with mediums, psychics, people that can read cards or have a connection to something else. You know, one time we were walking through the L.A. County Fair with a couple friends, and they stopped my friend, Oscar. And they said, you know, October so-and-so is a very important day for you. I looked at him like wide-eyed. He looked at me and he's like, okay. And then he just kept walking. And I was like, dude, isn't that your birthday? And he was like, yeah, that was weird. How does that happen? Could it be a trick?

[00:22:02] Can they look at your records when you buy your ticket? I don't even know if they ask. Maybe when they ask your ID, do they ask for your ID? I don't know. That's really creepy. Like, how do you explain that kind of stuff? Like, it doesn't make any sense. Like Lucia said, it's not possible. All right. The next story deals with a topic that has been circulating for a little bit, which is brujas, which I found out are kind of different things too. Witches and brujas. Talking about Mexican brujas, gringa witches. Different, different.

[00:22:29] And I think the comments section in our videos, they definitely reflect that. Like people say, hey, well, witches aren't bad. Now we're talking about gringa brujas. I mean, gringa witches. No, like they won't be scary. They're actually into the whole light and nature and all that stuff. But brujas, dude, you got to watch out. So heads up. Here's, here's, this is a real one here. I actually have a direct tie to this story. Like I've been in that house. So here, this is actually how I already got to record it. Here we go. Goodness, this is really creepy.

[00:22:59] Okay. Good evening. My name is Ana Calderón and I'm currently 37 years old and I live in Cuenca, Ecuador. I'm going to tell you about some things that have happened to me. Ever since I was a little girl, I lived in my grandparents' house. My mom is a single mother. We grew up hearing about paranormal events and we'd already come to see them as something normal for us. The truth is we lived with all these things happening as if they were something normal. Turns out we would always, at any time of the day, hear on the wall of my grandma's house what sounded like hammering.

[00:23:29] Hammering, hammering against the wall. The objects rolling and then falling. So for us, that sound at any time of the day was just normal. And one time, when I was little, I got really curious because I wanted to know what was on the other side of the wall. Because I'm thinking, okay, what's making that noise? So I went up to the terrace at my grandma's house to see what was behind the wall. And I expected to find a workshop or something because it always sounded like tools. Objects rolling around, falling. It turned out there was absolutely nothing. Nothing at all back there.

[00:23:58] It was completely empty. The yard. In the front part of the house, there lived this elderly couple. Already pretty old. Once, when we were about eight or nine, I was in one of the rooms at my grandma's house. I looked out into the patio and I heard something. A noise. A strange noise. I leaned out the window to look into the patio. It was around 10 or 11 in the morning. And the only thing I could see was a hand on the wall. Just the hand. So I got really, really scared.

[00:24:26] And the only thing I did was climb back in, like right away, through the window, over the bed, and just lay there kind of shaking. Later, I told my mom, but obviously she didn't believe me or pay much attention. Those things that, once you're an adult, you start realizing and you're like, I saw this. So what was it? Why did this happen to me? Anyway, I completely forgot about it. So when I was about 17, I was already in my first year of college and I was going through a really, really rebellious phase in my life.

[00:24:52] There were always arguments with my mom and my grandma about how I didn't come home early, that I went out too much, that kind of thing. And me, all rebellious, always talking to them and everything. I always talked back. So one day, I ended up getting home late, right after coming back from the university. And I got into an argument with my mom and my grandma because I'd arrived so late. I shared a room with my mom, but since I was already mad, I went to another room in my grandma's house that my sister used to stay in.

[00:25:21] Her stuff was still there and everything. But yeah, I went in there. It was like 1030 or 11 at night. And I wasn't sleepy. And I was watching a movie. It was a small room, just a little piece of furniture with the TV, the bed. And right in front of the bed was a door. So I'm watching the movie, totally focused. And out of the corner of my eye, I glance over a bit. And to my surprise, I saw a witch. It was this huge, huge woman. Like she reached all the way up to the ceiling. Her hair was all puffed up and gray.

[00:25:50] She had these big white eyes. And the most shocking thing was that she was wearing a black robe and she was floating. I was in shock. And just like I looked at her in the eyes. And the moment I did, it was like a blast rushing straight at me. And she ended up right in front of me, like face to face, like really, really close, maybe two centimeters away. From the fright and the shock, I felt my only reaction was just to cover myself with the blankets. I pulled the blankets over me and under them. And I was scared. I couldn't breathe.

[00:26:20] I mean, I couldn't. I tried, but I was hyperventilating because I felt like my heart was racing, like I couldn't breathe. I didn't want to uncover myself because I was terrified of seeing it again and having it attack me. But I couldn't breathe. So I had to, I don't know, maybe 30, 40 seconds went by and I uncovered myself again because I was so, so scared that I was really running out of air. And I felt like something was going to happen to me. So I had to uncover myself. And when I did, obviously there was nothing there anymore. The TV was normal, on.

[00:26:48] And the only thing I did was run out of the room. I left everything on. I turned on the light, the TV. I banged on my mom's door so she would open it. And of course, my mom told me, you see? This, this, it's your attitude and all that. Honestly, it was a pretty, really dramatic event for me because every time I remember it, it scares me a lot. After about two or three years, an uncle of mine who had lived in the United States for many years came back to Cuenca to live here again.

[00:27:13] In one of our family conversations, he told us he was telling us a scary story about something that happened to him. And it turns out he started saying that when he was living in the same house before traveling to the U.S., he had been attacked by a witch. And I just froze. I didn't know what to do. I was terrified. My skin literally crawled. Because it turns out that it was the same witch, the one who had slapped him across the face, who followed my uncle through the streets in the United States, who chased him to work, pointed at him and mocked him.

[00:27:42] I even cried that day because I said, my God, why like this? Now, you see, the uncle had experiences in the United States about a witch following him around. And I guess it kind of made its way to her, to that house. She continues, because I even try to kind of forget those stories, but it turned out it was completely confirmed. And to add to this, one day my sister came to visit the house. She was up on the second floor and she came running down, like running, running, running.

[00:28:08] And in the hallway right there, looking from the hallway out toward the patio next to the house refrigerator, she saw the witch standing there, incredibly tall. Like she reached the ceiling, floating. She saw her and she almost, like she was about to die of fright because she couldn't believe what she was seeing. About four years after everything that happened, since my uncle told us that story, I got married, started my own home, and I wasn't living at my grandparents' house anymore.

[00:28:35] But this time it was my mom who actually ended up seeing something paranormal. She was in her room, watching a movie, and she couldn't get any rest. And while she was watching, behind the TV, there was a window and a hallway. So my mom tells us that while she was watching the movie, she started hearing some noise outside. Then my mom said, well, who is it? There's almost nobody lives in that house anymore. What happened? So my mom kept staring at the window. It turns out that she saw a really tall shadow passing by it.

[00:29:04] And the window's reflection, like it was floating, moving very softly. My mom said that you could even make out its big, puffed up hair and long, large tunic. She was really, really scared when she told us this story. And it's funny, but honestly, my mom can't even go to the bathroom at night anymore because she's terrified of seeing, again, what she saw that night. She only saw the shadow and that's all. At my grandma's house, there's always been these kinds of paranormal things.

[00:29:31] And during vacation, we stayed there with my girls to take care of my grandma. We were in an apartment on the ground floor that she has. We stayed there for about three or four days. It turns out that every single day in the morning, you could hear little footsteps. Step, step, step. Step, step, step, step, step. And the room where I saw the witch. Tiny little footsteps, like tiny, tiny, and a ball bouncing. Always, every night at two in the morning, it would make my daughters and me wake up. We were really, really scared.

[00:29:59] I honestly forgot what it was like to go through something paranormal until I went back to my grandma's house. And every night we heard the same thing. Until the last night. What I decided, because we really did have to stay there for more days, but I decided to leave as soon as possible. Because one thing is hearing the little, little footsteps and the bouncing ball and coins falling and that kind of stuff. But it's another thing entirely to actually see something. And that's what happened to me. Because in my head, I kept thinking,

[00:30:28] I say, my God, maybe it's the soul of a child or something that's there. I try not to give it too much importance until one night. We were resting with my girls and in the room, there were two beds. Between the two beds, there was a little space so we could lie down and get into each bed that belonged to us. I was starting to fall asleep with everything already off. Lights off, TV, all that stuff. So I'm kind of drifting off, half awake, half asleep. And I hear it clearly, like little footsteps.

[00:30:55] And right when I turn over, I see this tiny little boy. So small. Like he's kneeling by my bed with huge eyes. Huge, huge, huge eyes. He was staring straight at me. My blood ran cold. I immediately turned around. And the only thing I was looking for was a remote. I was kind of half awake, half asleep. But it happened. And the next day, I decided I wasn't going to stay there at my grandma's house anymore because this really was just way too much.

[00:31:23] We always laughed about it and teased each other in the family, calling it the witch's room. Everyone says it, the witch's room. We're all afraid to go up there. And what's more, whenever someone, some outsider comes to the house for one reason or another, we avoid bringing it up because we're already a little wary that maybe the person will get scared or something. But as for us personally, we don't use that room at all. And what's more, even during the day, it's a little scary to go in and it's just a normal room.

[00:31:50] I mean, it's kind of like a storage room, but there are beds and everything. But it's what you hear in there. Interruption here because I actually stayed in that room. And I mentioned this a couple of times in our stories. But I had gone, I had traveled from California to Ecuador. And it's actually my wife's grandma's house. And it was because, you know, their cousins, Anna, who told the story. I was really tired, obviously, right? And it was a long flight and everything. They invited me to the grandma's house.

[00:32:20] And you have to be polite. You have to go. No matter what, you have to go. So I went, but I couldn't hold it anymore. I was like, I'm falling asleep. Like, I need to sleep. And they said, yeah, go up and rest in that room up there. So I was like, OK. So I went up, lay down, fell asleep. And next thing you know, I wake up and I turn over and I see a little boy and he's dirty. Like, he's like covered in clay, like mud. And I look at him and I'm like, ah, kid probably came to tell me to go eat or something, you know, because it was in the evening time. And I turned around and next thing you know, I'm asleep again.

[00:32:50] Again, I didn't think it was something paranormal. When I came down, I said, I saw a boy up there in the room. And everybody was like, what? Where'd you stay? And I was like, that room. The witch's room. El cuarto de la bruja. That, and I mean, coincidences, right? Or is it? Let's continue here. My grandma said that one day she had gone out to wash some clothes in the patio. And upstairs, right by the witch's room in my uncle's apartment, the one who would come back from the United States, she said she could hear my uncle playing the guitar, crying.

[00:33:20] My grandma was worried and said, why would he be so sad? What could be going on with him? Maybe he has some personal problem and maybe he doesn't want to tell me what it could be. Five minutes later, my uncle walked into the house and greeted her and he hadn't even been home. And my grandma always refuses to believe in that kind of stuff. She's always like, no, nothing's happening here. No, I believe in God and no, nothing's happening. But honestly, my grandma has gotten to the point where she has even a rosary hanging from the doorknob to her bedroom.

[00:33:47] She's complained so many times that in the middle of the night, someone tries to open the door to her room. She even brought holy water from the church and everything because she said that they were trying with all their might to get into the room. So my grandma often thought it was like thieves trying to hurt her or break into the room. She always says that she believes a lot in God, that she doesn't believe in anything paranormal. But at the end of the day, it's her house. You kind of learn to live with those things little by little. So for me, it was normal. I always say, come with me, please, just in case anything happens whenever I go anywhere.

[00:34:18] I'm 100% sure there's a soul there. Maybe, I don't know, something like a witch and a child. I'm telling you this right now, like I'm just, I don't know, watching TV on the computer and I saw it. I mean, it was there. And believe me, it traumatized me so much that I remember the face of the witch perfectly clear. Imagine this, it came within two centimeters of my face and had big white eyes with just one black line. Nothing else. It was like a normal, it wasn't like a normal pupil. It was, I mean, I saw it face to face. It felt like a challenge, you know?

[00:34:48] Like it was trying to scare me, mess with me, make me genuinely terrified. And I can show you what it looked like. And I'm telling you, everyone, everyone in the house described it the same way. But my mom saw it. She says it went past the window very, very slowly. But with me, it was like a direct attack. I think it has a lot to do with the whole thing about my behavior because obviously I was rebellious. I talked back and I wanted to do whatever I wanted with my life. So all those things, maybe because what brought it in, let's say my grandma's house has this kind of strong energy.

[00:35:17] Then all that built up and like fed it even more. That's why I don't like to talk about it much. I'll tell it briefly. And it was a long time ago. I think the last time it was with you. But I don't talk about it much because I feel like every time I tell this, it's like I'm feeding it. And maybe it could show up again or something. It's something bad. Something that scares you. Like with my uncle, when it slaps him, when it points at him with its finger, it mocks him. It's like it wants to frighten you. It wants to mess with you. So that's not something good, something bad, something very, very bad.

[00:35:47] My grandma's house is located in an area where there's a very well-known university in the city of Cuenca. She's always had, like you'll hear, there are several rooms in my grandma's house. And to help herself financially, she would rent out either an apartment or some of the rooms she had on the second floor upstairs. But the first tenants my grandma ever had were two young guys, just kids. And they would stay up late. I think it's kind of a student habit, right? Obviously, all of us who've been through university end up staying up late, doing assignments, everything.

[00:36:15] And that's when the paranormal that happened there would happen specifically to them. They said that the apartment they lived in had one bedroom, a living room and a kitchen. They would study there in the living room. And sometimes they would be really focused and studying and bam, the light would go out. So at first you would think, well, maybe the light bulb burned out or something happened. But it got to the point where they were so scared that they started studying in the bedroom. They didn't want to study in the living room anymore because they said it freaked them out so much. And one of those nights, what happened to one of the guys and what made them end up moving

[00:36:45] out of the apartment was that he was asleep like that. He left the TV on. He then hears a noise and tries to wake up, but he couldn't. And he was completely frozen. He could only open his eyes a tiny bit and that was all. Then he says what he could see was that the blankets weren't covering his toes. So he starts to feel this really, really intense cold. And out of the corner of his eyes, he begins to see that from the back wall, the sound from the house always comes from a man comes out, a man, but you couldn't see his face or anything.

[00:37:14] Just the outline of the super, super tall man walking around the bed and he wanted to scream and he was really, really scared. The only thing he wanted was to be able to move his body to scream, but he says he couldn't. And he brushed past his feet and went around his bed. And he saw it clearly as it kept moving and went back through the wall again toward the house behind it. The next day, he told us really, really scared. He told my grandma that if she knew anything about the house, you should tell him because honestly, he felt really, really bad and just couldn't keep living like that. So they moved out of the apartment.

[00:37:43] After that, another student moved in and the same thing happened to her. They would turn off the lights and while she was studying and even toward the end of the year, when she was about to finish, it happened to her again. So everyone can vouch for it because it's not just something that happens to one person. And you say, maybe you imagined it. They didn't sleep well or it was a dream or something. No, because it's different people over and over confirming what really goes on in that house. So what happens is that my grandma, like I'm telling you, she always tries to deny it. So she says, no, I don't believe you. And no, I haven't seen anything either.

[00:38:13] I know it's just in my head and things like that. And I always had her in the bedroom at the front of the house. Up front, she had this little tiny shop where she kept herself busy. She would tell little things there, chat with the neighbors. So it was like more than work. It was just something to keep my grandma entertained. I think she usually kept the door open for suppliers so they would drop off juices and stuff like that. But obviously anyone who was going to come in would always ring the bell right before entering. My grandma said that she was lying down there in the room.

[00:38:41] And from there, you could see the door just outside. So she says she's watching TV when she sees a tall guy, a tall man walking to the house and head straight to the shop. My grandma thought it was my cousin. So she calls out to him and says, hey, and then she's like, maybe he went to the bathroom or maybe he went to the shop to grab something. She keeps waiting for my cousin to come back so she can say hi to him. But no one ever came. My grandma says, what's going on? So she goes out to take a look because it's not my grandson. Then who is it? There was nobody in the house.

[00:39:09] There was also a time when my grandma, she was already starting to go a little crazy because she said that her wardrobe, she could hear like someone scratching, scratching and scratching in there. So my grandma would say, my God, what was happening? Because she would say, I can't sleep anymore. And then she said, no, I'm not going to change rooms because there's rats in this room. She tells my aunt and my aunt says, no, mom, how are you going to sleep in that room like that? It's called the handyman to pull out the drawers from the wardrobe from the closet and see what's in there because it could be that under the drawers, there's a rat's nest.

[00:39:39] And my grandma had already gone several months without being able to sleep. She said she would even grab her shoes and throw them at the wardrobe like she was trying to scare off whatever was in there because she swore it was a rat. So the very first thing my grandma did was switch rooms and then call the carpenter. He took absolutely everything out of the wardrobe, everything. And there was nothing in there. There wasn't even a single worm you could point to. There wasn't a cockroach. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. One of my aunt's friends, she's not someone who's into ghosts or anything like that,

[00:40:08] but she said that she really believes in energies. She believes a lot in spiritual cleansings and that kind of thing. And one day, my aunt told her everything that had been happening in the house, mainly because of what I mentioned before, that in the early hours of the morning, someone would try to open the door and they would bang hard on my grandma's door. So my aunt was already tired of hearing my poor grandma. She was really scared. And on top of that, she couldn't sleep well because imagine you're asleep and suddenly there's a huge banging on the door. So you're like, my God, what just happened here?

[00:40:36] My aunt called the lady and the lady confirmed that there were two souls you could say in the house. That's why I tell you, why I told you that it was an adult and a child. And then after many years, I saw him. I saw the child. I saw this little dark skinned boy, kind of small. She's a tiny kid. Maybe I would say at most three years old because he had these huge eyes, like really big eyes. And he stared straight at me. I just got the memories of waking up and seeing that little boy in that room. Okay.

[00:41:06] Oh no, it was horrible. It was, it was really intense. And it scared my little daughter because she was playing with some little balls back there in the room and someone threw a ball and hit her on the head. Just imagine I lived there in my grandma's house for 17 years. And of course I saw things and all, but the noises, the banging and all that stuff became kind of normal. I've gotten to the point now where I just, I can't take that kind of thing anymore. It's a story that I didn't experience just by myself. My sister did too. My uncle, everyone, obviously. We've all seen it. My mom. And it's the same thing.

[00:41:35] I mean, the characteristics are the same. So it's always like that. The sounds, I don't know. I'd rather not talk about it too much because it really scares me. The last thing I want is for that to happen to me again. And I know there's going to be a lot of people who might believe it and others who won't, but I know what I saw. It does make me a little nervous to talk about it, but that's what I lived through. You just have to learn to live with it. And that was Anna's story.

[00:42:02] Now, again, that's terrifying because I was in that house and the vibe in the house isn't necessarily bad, but there's been things there. Like, for example, when they open up those filters on TikTok or Snapchat and it would catch like a face moving next to you and kind of reacting to the same things. That would happen there. Also, I mean, obviously it's a grandparents' house. Grandpas and grandmas have things that are very old in the house.

[00:42:29] And there's a lot of experiences, lots of stuff that happens in those houses, right? Lots of people come in and out and go and all that. But it's really creepy. Also, the thunder. I don't know if you're able to hear the thing thundering behind me in the window. That really just kind of brought in the mood. But I think I'm ready for spooky season here and get more stories. So if you have any stories that you want to share, please send them in. The calls that we get in Spanish are coming through our podcast, Terror Historias Reales.

[00:42:56] And the ones in English come through from True Scary Story, the podcast. There's a big old collection there of stories that I've listened to and recorded over the years. And we still get a lot more. But if you want to share one, if you want to actually have a call and talk about it, we can record it. And we spread it either through True Scary Story, through here, through wherever it makes sense. But let me know in the comments. If your story isn't long enough to make it into an episode, for example, send it in

[00:43:25] to the comments. You can also send me an email. My contact info is always in the description of the episode. That's all I got for you. Thank you so much, by the way. I think that this was really fun. The storytelling session was we got to do more of these. So please send in more stories.
